Why Re-Electing Barack Obama Matters for Trans People
Did you know that more has been accomplished by the Obama administration for trans rights than all 43 other presidents combined?
Whether it was stopping the Social Security gender no-match letters, or issuing a directive that Veterans Administration facilities needed to treat trans vets respectfully, real trans people are being helped in real ways by President Obama. We’ve seen trans federal employees protected for the first time under President Obama, and what has happened with access to accurate ID documents including passports, birth certificates for Americans born outside of the country, immigration documents, federal employee records, and VA records has been revolutionary. And we need to keep that going. President Obama has been proud to stand by the trans community. Now it’s time our community stands by him. Besides being the right choice for America for a host of reasons, we sincerely believe that re-electing him is something we owe both the President and our community, which still needs so much more to get done. We are asking you to join in our effort -- Trans United for Obama (TU4O). Trans United for Obama is about getting together to raise awareness in trans communities, and volunteering with the campaign, so the President is re-elected. Look at this → LGBT Accomplishments. A major presidential candidate’s official website proudly lists what he’s done for trans equality. And that candidate is the President of the United States. That is historic and we need to have his back. Trans United for Obama (TU4O) holds frequent conference calls with the campaign, including with significant speakers you will definitely want to hear from. We have worked with the campaign to make sure that all of the campaign offices are ready for and respectful of trans volunteers. We are working with the campaign to register trans voters and make sure trans people aren’t denied the right to vote because of the recent new voter ID laws in several states states. As TU4O and as individuals, we aim to feed a lot of volunteers into the campaign all around the country. Given how tight the race is throughout the country, the President really needs our help. To join Trans United for Obama, click here, and give us your info. Then you will be sure to get all of the email invites about national calls and other activities! In the meantime, like us on Facebook and let us know why you are supporting the President! |
